Introduction

The Contemporary Art Museum of Funchal – MACFunchal is established in the historic Fortress of São Tiago, since 1992. The building classified as being part of Madeira’s edified patrimony, assembles a wide collection of Portuguese contemporary art, where some of the most well-known artistes from our national panorama are represented.
By promoting these assets, MACFunchal pretends to give a greater visibility to its collection, making also possible for the general public to have a direct contact with it. The purpose is to direct the population’s attention towards the museum and its role as an important entity for the promotion and stimulation of the contemporary artistic activity that contributes for a cultural valorisation of the city of Funchal.
