Introduction

The House-Museum Frederico de Freitas main mission is the study, conservation and promotion of the museum itself and of its collections, always working towards the preservation and valorisation of our culture.

Because it’s a House-Museum, it has the particularity of maintaining the tendency and visible functionality of the housing areas, and according to that, displaying the furniture, painting and sculpture collections and other decorative pieces. Basically, at the House of the Calçada, the visitor can come into contact and be dazzled by the ambience and surroundings of a residence, which was once property of one of the greatest local collectors.

Another side of the permanent exhibition is The Tile’s House, a modern building intervention that has privileged the origins and chronological criterions, in order to present a diversified and unusual collection of Portuguese and foreign glazed tiles.
