Introduction
According to tradition this is the house where Christopher Columbus, the discoverer of America, has lived. He was married to Filipa Moniz, daughter of Bartolomeu Perestrelo, the first Governor of Porto Santo.
The Museum attempts to fit the strategic position of Porto Santo, discovered in 1418, within the context of the Portuguese expansion.
Three fundamental areas are represented: Portuguese Expansion, Castilian, with biographic references to Christopher Columbus and an area entirely dedicated to the shipwreck of the Dutch Galleon, Slot ter Hooge, in 1724, nearby the northern coast of Porto Santo Island.
